This month, we are celebrating Pride by highlighting The Birdcage, a beloved comedy that has become an important part of LGBTQ+ cinema.
This is a time to celebrate diversity, honor individuality, and recognize the contributions and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community. Through laughter and heartfelt moments, The Birdcage reminds us that families come in many forms and that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.
During Pride Month, The Birdcage serves as a wonderful reminder to celebrate individuality, embrace diversity, and honor the many voices and stories that make our communities stronger.
🌈 Happy Pride Month! Let us continue to celebrate love, inclusion, and the freedom to be ourselves. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

🌈🎨 Celebrating Pride Month Through Art & Self-Expression! 🎨🌈
Today our residents explored the inspiring life and artwork of Frida Kahlo, an artist known for embracing her individuality, self-expression, and authenticity. In honor of Pride Month, we discussed the importance of being proud of who you are and celebrating the unique qualities that make each person special.
Residents participated in two creative activities designed to encourage self-expression. Some will creat self-portraits using photographs of themselves as inspiration, reflecting on how they see themselves and sharing their personal stories through art. Others will color beautiful flower crowns inspired by Frida Kahlo's iconic style. After wearing their crowns, residents will look in a mirror and described what they saw, highlighting their strengths, personality, and individuality.
This meaningful activity encouraged creativity, confidence, self-reflection, and acceptance while celebrating the spirit of Pride Month. We loved seeing our residents express themselves and embrace what makes them unique! 🌺❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
🌺 Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month Activity 🌺
Today we held our final group activity in celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Our focus was on the abstract landscape artwork of John Pule.
John Pule is a Niuean artist, poet, and writer from the Pacific Islands. He is widely known for combining traditional Pacific storytelling with contemporary abstract painting styles. His work often reflects themes of land, identity, spirituality, and migration, and he uses bold colors and layered imagery to represent cultural memory and connection to place. He is also recognized internationally for both his visual art and literary work.
We printed several examples of his landscape-inspired pieces for residents to view and explore. Residents were encouraged to observe the use of color, shapes, and patterns, and to share their thoughts and interpretations of the artwork.
This activity offered a creative way to reflect on cultural expression, storytelling through art, and the diverse contributions of Pacific Islander artists.
🌺 Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month Spotlight 🌺
This month, we celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
Today, residents enjoyed Disney’s live-action film Mulan, which highlights themes of courage, honor, and identity while drawing inspiration from Chinese folklore. Mulan’s journey reminds us of the strength found in embracing who you are and standing up for your family and community.
As we honor AAPI Heritage Month, we recognize stories like Mulan that help share cultural traditions and inspire people of all ages.
